Elliott Owen Lipinsky
Elliott Owen Lipinsky is an Alabama trial attorney based in Selma. A former prosecutor, he represents clients in criminal defense, personal injury, and wrongful death matters across Dallas County and West Alabama’s Black Belt, Montgomery, and the River Region. A Montgomery native and graduate of the University of Alabama, he was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 2013.
Experience on Both Sides of the Courtroom
Elliott began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in Alabama’s Fourth Judicial Circuit, based in Selma. He later served as a deputy district attorney in Tuscaloosa and Wilcox Counties. Across those roles, he saw how criminal cases are investigated, charged, negotiated, and tried. In private practice, he now represents people facing criminal charges as well as families confronting serious injuries or wrongful death. His work on both sides of the courtroom shapes the questions he asks of a case: what the evidence shows, what remains uncertain, and which choices matter most to the client.
Clients deserve more than a quick assessment based on a charge or incident report. Elliott listens first, studies the facts, explains the legal issues and available options in plain language, and prepares each case for the path it may take. His prior roles inform that work; every outcome depends on the facts and law of the particular matter.
Community Involvement and Professional Service
Elliott’s work outside his practice reflects a longstanding interest in public service, education, and the communities he serves. His involvement has included:

Access to justice: Volunteering through the Montgomery Volunteer Lawyers Program and at the Alabama State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program’s Selma clinic to provide legal guidance and accept pro bono referrals for people with limited incomes.

Bar leadership: Past service as vice president of the Montgomery County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section and participation in the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Public service: Previously served as the governor-appointed consumer representative on the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Healthcare Data Advisory Council and on the Montgomery Zoo Board.

Community outreach: Volunteering at the Pike Road Arts & Crafts Fair and the Heart of Alabama Food Bank, serving on the YMCA Boys Work Committee, and supporting projects with Mercy House, Child Protect, and Dream Court.

Veterans and youth: Participating in a veterans legal clinic and volunteering with Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, including service as an assistant Scoutmaster.

Arts and writing: Supporting the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts as a contributor, including service on its Junior Executive Board, and writing Space Pup: The Adventures of Elrod Cannon, an illustrated children’s book published in 2020.

Education and heritage: Teaching a law school course on criminal procedure; participating in the Keystone Club, the Florida Pioneer Association, and the Sons of the American Revolution; and serving as a member of the Order of First Families of North Carolina.

Honors: Elliott is an honorary Alabama Colonel, a Silver Paw Award honoree, and the holder of a key to the City of San Diego. He has also won numerous ribbons at the Alabama National Fair.
